Vicky Kaushal‘s ‘Sam Bahadur‘ and Ranbir Kapoor‘s ‘Animal‘ had a clash at the box office as both the films released on December 1. While Vicky’s movie, directed by Meghna Gulzar, got a lot of critical acclaim and accolades from the audience, box office wise, obviously, ‘Animal’ created a bigger dent and euphoria as it made more than Rs 500 crores at the box office. In a recent interview, Vicky has reacted to this clash and the success of ‘Animal’.
Vicky admitted that they always knew that ‘Sam..’ was more like a test match. He said during a chat with The Week, “We knew it was not the quintessential masala film that Animal was―it had the shock value and one knew it would create waves at the box office. We knew we needed that much time, that word of mouth, for the film to resonate with the masses. Because if it would not click with people, it would not do well no matter when it released. People started talking about it more and more as the weeks went by. We saw that through January, Sam shows kept going on, and that gives me tremendous happiness.”
The actor played the role of Field Marshall Sam Maneckshaw in this biopic and most people thought he completed aced the part. Vicky also spoke about his prep for the role and said that his ritual for the film was to get ready in his van and play jazz music for few minutes before the shot. He had to first look into the mirror in order to be convinced that he’s Sam.
At the moment, Vicky is shooting for his next ‘Chhava’ where he’s playing the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar. Vicky will be seen next in ‘Bad Newz’ with Triptii Dimri, which is set to release on July 19.
