WhatsApp has already made the Companion mode available across all the platforms including Android, iOS, Windows and macOS. If you are unaware, the Companion mode allows users to use the same WhatsApp account on four other devices without logging out from the primary device. Now, the company is reportedly working on an alternate feature called Multi-account support.
Reported by WABetaInfo, the Multi-account feature is in development phase and hasn’t been rolled out to the beta testers yet. However, the feature is found within the WhatsApp for Business version 2.23.13.5 which is already available on Google Play Store.
We expect that WhatsApp will soon start testing the feature with beta users. However, there’s no information available regarding the same.
How does the new Multi-account feature works
As per the screenshots posted, the company has added a new menu that will let users select the different accounts linked within the same app. Users can choose one of the accounts to login and switch to it. Report also mentions that once you’ve logged in into the account, it will be there unless users manually choose to logout from the device.
How it will help users
Multi-account feature itself is a much needed feature. With this users can choose to keep their personal and work WhatsApp accounts in the same device without the need to install multiple instances of the app (the feature usually offered by OEMs on Android phones). This will also enable better privacy and account management for users.
It is worth reminding that the feature is in testing and is currently meant for business app. Now, it is not necessary that WhatsApp will restrict the feature to business users only.
